Painshill Park is an pretty 18th century landscaped garden and lake based near Oxshott and Cobham in Surrey.
I wanted to explore somewhere new that had a lake we could walk round. Painshill Park fit the bill. We chose a wet but mild day, but struck it lucky as the rain stopped and the sun came out as we got there, which meant lots of muddy puddle jumping in good weather. Win!
There are a few different shortish walks you can take at the park, though only one is accessible. It is ideal though for small feet as it’s only 1.5 mile long, with lots to look at and explore. The route follows the Serpentine Lake around its edge so there are tons of bird spotting opportunities. We saw lots of swans, ducks and moorhens. Also enroute, is a small vineyard (more for the adults), a gothic tower (pictured) which my kids loved jumping about in and admiring the view, multiple bridges and a crystal grotto. Sadly the entrance to the grotto wasn’t open when we visited.
The tea shop and cafe does really tasty food and has a children’s menu and the toilets are nice and clean with baby change facilities. All the staff are super friendly too.
Best bit?
A breath of fresh air in scenic Surrey and an easy baby and toddler-friendly walk. Good for all the family.
Don’t miss!
Painshill Park often run wild camps for children during half terms.
