Set in an industrial site on the edge of Walthamstow, this unique shop/cafe/museum/art gallery is where all the cool folk from East London gather. God’s Own Junkyard is the late Chris Bracey’s collection and creation of hundreds of neon and lit signs from over 35 years.
Bracey made neon art from salvaged signs, vintage neon, fairground and circus lighting and old movie props. His family has now taken over the baton and continue his work. Prepare yourself to be dazzled by huge glittering disco balls, luminous street signs and psychedelic paraphernalia in every corner.
Children are welcome, but be prepared for lots of prodding and poking (by them, not of them). There’s plenty of seating in the Rolling Scones cafe for buggies though lunchtimes get quite busy. Outside is a good bet too as kids can run around safely in the industrial site (curious but true).
Don’t miss!
The toilets. Neon lit, of course, and set in an old police box.
Tip
Orford Road is nearby for a browse around Walthamstow Village’s indie shops.
